Collaborating on a portfolio of projects for Badger Mill Creek

At its May 25, 2023 meeting, the District’s Commission approved, via resolution, the discontinuance of effluent, or cleaned wastewater, to the Badger Mill Creek to meet its permit requirement for phosphorus compliance in that waterway. This compliance solution is now moving through a regulatory process, which could take a year or more.

A key aspect of the decision is a pledge of $1 million in funding to support the continued health and resiliency of Badger Mill Creek and its environmental corridor.

To understand local interests, challenges and opportunities, the District, with the assistance of a third-party facilitator, has convened a stakeholder group that includes both government and nongovernmental organizations. The group is tasked with developing a portfolio of projects it will recommend to the Commission in September 2024.

Participants will meet the third Wednesday of most months from September 2023 to August 2024 to prioritize interests and needs, which could include flow, habitat and other improvements. A community meeting is planned for spring 2024; at its October meeting, the stakeholder group agreed to postpone the November 2023 community meeting.

This page will be home to monthly stakeholder group updates, including meeting materials. A list of participating organizations can be found below. For previously posted information on Project PLUS, including FAQs, please see the Phosphorus Compliance – Badger Mill Creek page.
