Home / What We Do / Current Construction Projects / Nine Springs Liquid Processing Improvements – Phase 2

Project Overview

The Nine Springs Liquid Processing Improvements – Phase 2 (NSLPI-2) project includes the replacement of critical equipment used to treat the liquid waste stream and support the biological nutrient removal (BNR) system at the treatment plant.

Construction will mobilize in the Spring of 2027, and work will continue through the Fall of 2030. All work is within the boundaries of the plant, and the effect on the public is expected to be minimal.

Public Involvement

All work is within the fence of the Nine Springs Wastewater Treatment Plant. No public input was collected.

Project Funding

Construction of upgrades and improvements to the District Electrical Service Equipment Replacement project is financed by the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF). The CWSRF program is administered by WI DNR with joint funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Wisconsin.  This project benefits community residents and businesses in and near the City of Madison, as well as providing water quality benefits for the larger Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District service area and downstream watersheds. CWSRF programs operate around the country to provide states and communities with the resources necessary to maintain and improve the infrastructure that protects our valuable water resources nationwide.
