Current Projects: District Gravity Thickeners Rehabilitation

Home / What We Do / Current Construction Projects / District Gravity Thickeners Rehabilitation

Project Overview

The purpose of the project is to replace the gravity thickener tank mechanical rotational force drives and mechanisms in thickener tanks 1 and 2. Both gravity thickeners are essential to plant operations, specifically solids processing. They thicken primary sludge, using gravity as the primary mode of settling and water separation, before it’s further processed and digested.

Based on a reliability centered maintenance (RCM) review, the drives required replacement based on the condition of equipment and criticality. The drives and mechanisms have outlived their useful lives and are a safety concern when performing routine preventative maintenance activities. Furthermore, the equipment is subjected to harsh conditions and its physical condition has deteriorated past the point of rebuilding the units.

Planned replacement of this equipment results in minimal negative effect to plant operations and reduces the safety risk to staff who work around the thickener drives and mechanisms.
