Hardness buildup (scale) forms more easily in hot water than in cold water. To avoid using unnecessary salt, consider removing softened water from your cold-water fixtures, like toilets, cold water taps or outside hoses. Request a test kit to determine if there are water sources in your home that could be using hard water instead. Or, watch a video to learn how to test for hard water using certain types of soap. You can learn more about water softeners on our Chloride FAQs page.
Complete this form if you’d like to request a test kit to help determine if cold water in and around your house is softened.
