Treatment Process

Liquid Wastes Solids
The treatment plant speeds natural recycling in a highly controlled and contained process to efficiently treat the enormous volume of wastewater produced every day in the Madison metropolitan area.

The solid material that settles to the bottom of the tanks during primary and secondary treatment must be removed.  Some of it is recycled and reused in the treatment process.  The rest is concentrated, decomposed, and stabilized until very little odor remains.  It is then safe for reuse on farmland.  This liquid digested biosolid material, known as Metrogro is a valuable fertilizer and soil conditioner.
