2006 independent third party audit

The District has joined an elite group of agencies that have achieved Platinum EMS status with the National Biosolids Partnership.  Platinum status is the highest level of recognition that agencies can receive.  To achieve this status, agencies must successfully  complete an interim audit conducted by an independent 3rd party.  The District’s audit was completed on June 2nd.  Several positive observations were made during the audit, including the following:

1. The District has an excellent biosolids EMS and its manual has been established as a model by the National Biosolids Partnership.

2. The District has an exemplary External EMS Advisory Committee composed of members of the general public that represent a wide variety of interests – environmental regulators, agricultural regulator and extension service agent, citizens, university researchers and scientists, farmers and county government representatives.

3. The District has outstanding support of its biosolids EMS program by the State regulators.

4. The senior Metrogro mechanic (Brad Walker) has developed a benmark machine inspection checklist for field inspections of equipment and end of season checkups.  Special recognition should be give to this individual for his contributions to one of the critical control points of the biosolids value chain.

5. The District continues to demonstrate pride in its product through the polished appearance of its tanker trucks and prominent display of the Metrogro insignia.

The audit identified five items that required additional follow up by District staff.  The most significant item was a request to include regulatory citations in the District’s standard operating procedures.  All five items have been addressed.  Anyone interested in reviewing the audit report should contact Dave Taylor (phone: 222-1201, ext. 276; email: davet@madsewer.org)

3rd Party Audit of EMS program This report provides a summary of a 2004 audit that was conducted by an independent third party auditor. In September 2004, the District became only the fourth agency in the nation to have its EMS program certified by the National Biosolids Partnership. The District's EMS program was audited by an independent third party audit company (NSF International Strategic Registrations, Ltd.) in early September. NSF verified that the District's EMS conformed to the requirements established by the National Biosolids Partnership and recommended that that the Partnership certify the District's EMS program.
